-Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau (170 kilometers / 106 miles)

Mai Chau Valley is one of the less touristy destinations in North Vietnam although it is quite close to the capital city of Hanoi. It is about 150 kilometers away or a three-hour drive by car Highway No. 6. Mai Chau is a favorite destination of Thang Motorcycle Tour. Instead of riding along the boring highway, you will ride together to Mai Chau on your own route to the stunning valley.

You will cross through many rural villages to make the ride safer on the smaller roads where you can see the hidden beauty of Vietnam. The motorbike tour to Mai Chau will end at around 05:00 p.m. at a peaceful village of the Thai minority whom you will stay with. Lunch and dinner will be provided.

 

-Day 2: Mai Chau – Moc Chau – Phu Yen (150 kilometers / 93 miles)

Day two will be a short and enjoyable motorcycle ride north to Phu Yen. You can start the ride at around 09:30 a.m. after a short walk around the peaceful villages of the Thai people to observe the daily life of the locals in rural areas and learn more about the unique culture of the Vietnamese hill tribes.

Once back on the bikes, you will then ride east and climb to the Moc Chau plateau. The motorbike ride from Mai Chau to Moc Chau will mostly be on winding passes with beautiful views. If you are a fan of off-road motorbike riding, your guide will give you the option to ride some other off-road trails before reaching Moc Chau. You will end the day's ride in Phu Yen at around 04:30 p.m. and stay in a hotel in town. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

 

-Day 3: Phu Yen – Than Uyen (220 kilometers / 137 miles)

You will start the day at 07:30 a.m. with hot coffee and rice noodles for breakfast. After saying goodbye to the little town of Phu Yen, you will continue the motorbike tour with a long ride to Mu Cang Chai.

It is more than 200 kilometers of mountain passes and back roads, crossing through many villages of the H’mong, Dzao, and Thai people. You will have the chance to take pictures of the amazing rice terrace fields in Mu Chang Chai. They are most spectacular from June to September. You will arrive in Than Uyen at around 05:00 p.m. where you will stay in a hotel. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

 

-Day 4: Than Uyen – Sa Pa (110 kilometers / 68 miles)

The motorbike tour to Sa Pa will be the shortest day ride of the trip but it is a highlight of the motorbike tour. You will ride through some very large green tea fields and cross the O Qui Ho pass, one of the longest passes in North Vietnam with amazing views of the Hong Lien mountain range which has the highest peak in Vietnam and Indochina.

The Fan-Xi-Pan peak has a height of more than 3,140 meters above sea level. You will be in Sa Pa at noon. After lunch, you will ride around Sa Pa to see more hill tribe villages, rice terrace fields, and waterfalls. You can leave the bikes behind to explore Sa Pa on foot. It is up to you. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided. In the evening, you will stay in a hotel.

 

-Day 5: Sa Pa – Xin Man (170 kilometers / 106 miles)

After having breakfast and saying goodbye to Sa Pa, you will enjoy a beautiful off-road motorcycle ride from Sa Pa to Xin Man. Immediately after leaving Sa Pa Town, you will turn onto small backroads, riding through some villages of the Red Dzao and Black H’mong people. The best time of the year for photography is from June to September but it is picturesque all year round.

You will be able to experience the culture of the local ethnic minorities as you descend the mountains to Lào Cai. After lunch in Lào Cai Town on the Chinese Border, you will ride upwards and climb to the Bac Ha town located at around 1,000 meters above sea level. The ride will mostly be on winding mountain passes and bumpy dirt roads. You will end the day at the little town of Xin Man where you will stay in a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

 

-Day 6: Xin Man – Ha Giang (180 kilometers / 112 miles)

You will start the motorbike tour to Ha Giang with a short off-road ride right after Xin Man Town. The first half of the motorbike ride to Ha Giang will almost be on the bumpy, dirty tracks but offer a great chance to be close to the local people by riding through the villages of the hill tribes.

The rest of the ride will be on quite smooth road to Ha Giang City. You will be in the City of Ha Giang at around 04:30 p.m. You will check in the room in Thuong Xuan Resort, one of the best accommodations in Ha Giang and it will be the best stay on the tour. You will enjoy the peace of the nature and you save energy for the adventure by motorbikes on the next day. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

 

-Day 7: Ha Giang – Meo Vac (170 kilometers / 106 miles)

Having no hesitations to say, the tour is the best motorcycle ride in North Vietnam. The ride will be along the Chinese border via the imposing Dong Van Rock Plateau on all the winding mountain passes that offer amazing views of nature.

You will ride your motorbikes crossing the Ma-Pi-Leng pass, one of the longest and most beautiful passes in North Vietnam. Beside the breathtaking scenery, the Vietnam motorcycle tour on the Rock Plateau will also offer a great chance to learn more about the culture and tradition of the local ethnic people. You will end the great ride in the town of Meo Vac at around 05:00 p.m. In the evening, you will stay in a hotel. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

 

-Day 8: Meo Vac – Cao Bang (180 kilometers / 112 miles)

Cao Bang means “High Plateau” in Vietnamese. It is the land with rich culture and a turbulent history. It is also the second homeland of Ho Chi Minh where he spent most of the time to live and work before the Dien Bien Phu battle in 1954. Cao Bang is now quite a busy town. However, the Vietnam motorbike tour to Cao Bang is still one of the most enjoyable trips because of the beautiful routes to the town and after the town to the Chinese border.

The motorbike ride from Meo Vac to Cao Bang on day eight is almost on-road, crossing some scenic mountain passes. You will be in Cao Bang quite early. You will check in the room in hostel and you can relax to save energy for the next long rides or try a local beer on the street. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

 

-Day 9: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc – Quang Uyen (170 kilometers / 106 miles)

Day nine will be another highlight of your North Vietnam motorbike trip. After saying goodbye to the host, the experienced guide will take you on the scenic roads leading to the Chinese border. The ride will almost be on-road, offering amazing views of mountains and rice fields between the villages of the ethnic people. You will be at the Chinese border where you can see the biggest and most beautiful waterfall in Vietnam, Ban Gioc, at noontime.

You will stop riding for lunch and then spend a relaxing time, taking pictures or swimming at the waterfall. You will be back to the beautiful roads to enjoy the motorbike ride to the little peaceful town of Quang Uyen. You will arrive at the home of a family of the Tay people in the nearby the town at 05:00 p.m. You will get off the bikes and then enjoy a relaxing time with the family. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

 

-Day 10: Quang Uyen – Mau Son (200 kilometers / 124 miles)

Mau Son is one of the highest peaks of the mountains in Northern Vietnam, Thang Motorcycle Tour is one of few organizers who plan the tour to the unique destination. The motorbike tour to Mau Son on day 10 will be along the frontier area close to China. You will cross some border gates. The ride is almost on the smooth mountain back road with a nice view.

At the end of the ride, you will have no choice but cross through the busy Lang Son City where you can take a quick visit to some famous and very large markets. You will arrive at the guesthouse in Mau Son at around 05:00 p.m. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

 

-Day 11: Mau Son – Ha Long (180 kilometers / 112 miles)

You will continue the full North Vietnam motorbike tour at around 08:30 a.m. You will keep riding your motorcycle along the Chinese border. The roads are almost sealed and not so steep. It will be an easy motorbike ride with some stops to take visits to some interesting rural villages or local markets.

The ride in the afternoon when you get closer to the Ha Long City is busier with traffic but you can enjoy the difference from the days before as you will be closer to the sea and riding on the coastlines. You will be in the right center of Ha Long City at 04:30 p.m. You will stay overnight in a hotel. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

 

-Day 12: Ha Long tour by boat

After breakfast, you will have a few hours to discover the touristy city of Ha Long before getting on the boat. You can have a leisurely walk around the city center to visit more markets for some shopping or take a short ride to another part of the city through a nice coastal road to Tuan Chau Island.

You will be back to the tourist wharf at around 11:00 a.m. to check in the boat then spend some relaxing time indulging on fresh seafood, cold drinks, and trying on swimming or kayaking. After a long motorbike ride around the northern mountain of Vietnam, the boat cruise will become a perfect to lift your spirits. You will stay on the boat in a private cabin. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

 

-Day 13: Ha Long City – Hanoi (165 kilometers / 103 miles)

You will get up early to enjoy a peaceful morning on the bay or experience Tai Chi on the rooftop of the boat. After breakfast, you will keep cruising around the beautiful Ha Long Bay until 11:00 a.m. You will then get off the boat and continue the motorbike tour back to Hanoi.

The ride back to Hanoi will be quite busy but you have no choice. You will be back in Hanoi and you will end the great North Vietnam motorbike tour before 04:00 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will provided.
